SPS trade fair 2024: F.EE takes positive stock

The Technical Managing Director of F.EE GmbH, Franz Weinzierl, looks back on a successful SPS in Nuremberg: ‘This year we were able to record an enormous rush of visitors to our stand and a large number of interesting contacts’. In his view, the main reason for this was the topic of ‘virtual commissioning’, for which F.EE offers one of the leading tools on the market with its fe.screen-sim simulation software. ‘We clearly realise that this topic is of interest to many companies and that we have by no means reached the end of the possibilities offered by digital twins,’ says Weinzierl.

This was made clear at the SPS trade fair by a live demo by the Institute of Production and Information Technology (IPI), which used a model created in fe.screen-sim for the presentation of a ‘digital shadow’ - i.e. synchronous simulation based on live machine data. The special feature: the independent and continuous parameterisation of the simulation using current machine data, including permanent adaptation, was carried out without manual intervention. ‘The possible applications of the digital shadow are extremely diverse,’ explains Jonas Heller from IPI. ‘They range from monitoring machine elements and KPIs in live operation to crash reconstructions and analyses to the live optimisation of processes.’ Franz Weinzierl (left) was also impressed by these forward-looking possibilities during his visit to the IPI stand.

The software specialist COLIGO presented another highly interesting approach in conjunction with the simulation solution from F.EE at its trade fair stand: In a demo, fe.screen-sim was used to simulate a ‘pick and place’ machine that provides data to the COLIGO EdgeBox via OPC UA. ‘This digital twin is used to train a machine learning model for anomaly detection on the Edge in streaming learning, which subsequently detects possible anomalies in the height of the designed parts by precisely measuring the distance,’ says COLIGO CEO Dimitri Philippe (right), explaining the principle of the solution presented, which Franz Weinzierl was also able to see for himself.
